Associate Quality Assurance Engineer

About the Role

KangaroTech is looking for a practical and detail-oriented Associate QA Engineer with at least 1 year of software QA/testing experience to join our engineering team.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience testing real-world web applications and APIs, identifying and documenting defects, validating fixes, performing regression testing, and working closely with developers and project teams to maintain product quality.

We are looking for someone who can think beyond basic test execution, understand how features should behave from a user and system perspective, and proactively identify edge cases, risks, and quality gaps.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing of web applications.
• Test features across positive, negative, boundary, and edge-case scenarios.
• Analyze requirements and identify missing scenarios, ambiguities, and potential risks before development or release.
• Create and maintain test cases, test scenarios, checklists, and test documentation.
• Identify, reproduce, document, and track bugs with clear steps, expected results, actual results, severity, and supporting evidence.
• Perform re-testing and regression testing after bug fixes and new feature development.
• Test REST APIs using tools such as Postman or similar tools.
• Validate API requests, responses, status codes, authentication, authorization, validation, and error handling.
• Perform basic database validation using SQL when required.
• Collaborate closely with developers, project managers, and other QA team members throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily discussions, review sessions, and release activities when required.
• Analyze existing application behavior and provide QA input for redevelopment and system improvements.
• Identify high-risk areas and help define appropriate testing approaches before release.
• Maintain clear QA reports and communicate testing progress, blockers, and unresolved issues to the relevant team members.
• Contribute to improving QA processes, standards, and testing practices within the team.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 1+ year of hands-on experience in Software QA / Software Testing.
• Strong understanding of manual software testing concepts and practical testing techniques.
• Experience testing web applications.
• Experience with API testing, preferably using Postman or similar tools.
• Good understanding of bug life cycle, test case design, regression testing, and defect management.
• Familiarity with Jira or similar issue/task management tools.
• Basic knowledge of SQL and database validation.
• Good understanding of software development and QA processes.
• Ability to analyze requirements and think of edge cases and negative scenarios, not only happy paths.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to problem solving.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with developers and project teams.

Advantageous Skills

• Experience with test automation tools or frameworks.
• Experience testing Node.js, Next.js, Java/Spring Boot, or similar backend/web applications.
• Basic understanding of Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Experience working on SaaS, ERP, CRM, fintech, or other business-critical applications.
