Software / AI Engineering Intern – WhatsApp AI Automation (Contract)

About the Role

CreativeX Technology is looking for a motivated Software Engineering Intern to join our development team and continue the development of a real-world WhatsApp AI Automation Project.

You will work on an existing system that integrates with the Meta WhatsApp Business API to automate customer conversations, understand customer messages, and respond according to predefined business workflows.

This is a hands-on development role where you will work with an existing codebase, implement new features, fix issues, test conversation flows, and improve the reliability of the WhatsApp automation system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of the existing WhatsApp automation bot.
  • Work with the Meta WhatsApp Business API and Webhooks.
  • Implement and maintain customer conversation flows.
  • Develop message-processing and response logic.
  • Support Sinhala, English, Tamil, Singlish, and Tamil written in English.
  • Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into the chatbot where required.
  • Work with backend APIs and database integrations.
  • Debug webhook, API, authentication, and messaging issues.
  • Test different customer conversation scenarios and edge cases.
  • Improve chatbot reliability, response accuracy, and error handling.
  • Maintain clean, reusable, and well-documented code.
  • Collaborate with the development team to understand requirements and implement assigned features.
  • Assist with deployment, testing, and production support when required.

Who We're Looking For

  • Undergraduate or recent graduate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in backend development, AI, and automation.
  • Comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies independently.
  • Good problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Able to understand and work with an existing codebase.
  • Responsible and willing to take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Previous personal or academic projects are an advantage.
