The EDEX expo provided a platform for the 2nd consecutive year for SLASSCOM Future Careers program to connect with Sri Lankan youth to the exiting job opportunities in the IT/ BPO industry and the knowledge services. The Future Careers Pavilion was inaugurated by Mr. Lalith Weeratunga,Secretary to His Excellency the President.

Tech One Global will set up a 50-seat IT/BPO business, becoming the first Sri Lankan company to set up operations in Sri Lanka’s dedicated IT/BPO Park in Hambantota.

EDEX 2012 the National Higher Education and Careers Expo will be unveiled for the 9th consecutive year today at BMICH, Colombo and at Kandy City Centre, Kandy on January 27 and 28.

Eighty per cent of Sri Lanka’s software professionals are from rural Sri Lanka, an industry source claimed.

SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies) will be hosting a knowledge sharing session on ‘Internet scale and the role of non-relational databases’ on 6th December 2011 at the Dialog Future World Auditorium at Excel World Entertainment Park.

Exploring opportunities for trade, technology transfer and alliances with local companies, a delegation of business leaders from Northern Ireland was present in Sri Lanka earlier this week to meet with prospective partners to initiate further business relationships.

SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies) is organizing a one day workshop on Lean Six Sigma Champion Training on 25th November 2011 at the Dialog Future World Auditorium at Excel World Entertainment Park. 

The Sri Lanka-Norway Business Matchmaking Programme (BMMP) officials of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), along with the representatives of 11 major players from the Sri Lankan IT industry who took part in the ICT delegation visit to Oslo, Norway in October, met Norway's Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hilde Haraldstad at her residence recently.

SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies) organized a two day industrial visit for the Computer Science undergraduate students from the University of Jaffna. SLASSCOM facilitated this industry awareness visit for the second consecutive year as part of their capacity building initiative to bring Jaffna students to mainstream IT/ BPO industry. The students visited IFS, Virtusa, Euro Center, eCollege, Cinergix Research and Sabre Technologies on the 17th and 18th October 2011 during their stay in Colombo. 

Sri Lanka has been shortlisted for the best offshore destination of the world awards at the 2011 National Outsourcing Association (NOA) Summit and Awards to be held in November 2011. Sri Lanka has been nominated for this award along with Egypt and Poland.

The Sri Lanka-Norway Business Match Making Programme (BMMP) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) with a view to build a dependable and advantageous relationship, to promote joint ventures and exchange of technical expertise between Sri Lanka and Norway, organised an ICT delegation to Oslo, Norway in collaboration with Advance Business partner AS Norway recently.  

Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies SLASSCOM organized a successful industry visit for staff members attached to IT faculties from State and private Universities. This is part of the SLASSCOM directlink Initiative to provide a platform for collaboration between the IT industry and the academia. A sound dialogue and strong relationship between the academia and industry is essential to ensure that the IT and BPO industry stays relevant and competitive in the global market.

The University of Peradeniya emerged winners for their Agricultural and Livestock Assistance Pack solution at the Inter-University Enterprise Mobility Software  Development Competition organized by Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) and Motorola Solutions.

The APIIT Team comprising of C.M.Tharanga Nuwan Chandrasekara, R.M.Isuru Uthpala Bandara Ranasinghe, Dushmantha Ranathunga, Samith Disal Sandanayake, P.G.G.T.C. Deshapriya, W.P.C.T Pulasthi, Chamath Silva emerged Runners- up at the Motorola Inter- University Enterprise Mobility Software Development Competition 2011 held recently. Organised by Motorola Solutions in collaboration with SLASSCOM for the second consecutive year, 16 Undergraduate teams from 12 universities from around the country took part in the completion to showcase their innovative applications in mobile software.

Sri Lanka's IT-BPO sector is going to be a significant sector for employment generation over the next three years as this sector targets US$ 1 billion in export earnings by 2015, an achievement which requires 85,000 jobs, 45,000 more than currently existing.

Sri Lanka's premier higher education and careers expo is back for the ninth consecutive year, and its largest showing ever. Edex Expo 2012, once again organized by the Royal College Union, will be the largest showcase of higher education, vocational training and skills development options to date, with the greatest participation of foreign and local education providers. The event will be held on January 20, 21 and 22, 2012 in Colombo and will be held in Kandy on January 27 and 28, 2012.

Hard on the heels of the London Times featuring an article about the potentiality of Sri Lankan accountants catering to the knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) industry globally, the New York Times too carried a similar article recently.

Sri Lankans need to break that barrier of shyness that precludes them from speaking in English, Sri Lanka Association of Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) Chairman Sujiwa Dewaraja told reporters recently.

Facilitating the growth of the next generation of IT professionals in Sri Lanka, SLASSCOM held a one-day workshop for IT faculty members at all state regional universities on ICT curriculum development. The aim of the workshop was to discuss how to develop curricula in order to enhance student learning that also meets the needs of the workforce.

Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in collaboration with Advance Business Partner AS, Norway organized a seminar on business matchmaking opportunities with Norway, was held on August 9, at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) is the IT \ BPO industry chamber focused on furthering the IT \ BPO industry in Sri lanka. ‘All our endeavors are geared towards driving Sri Lanka to reach our national goal of leading Sri Lanka to the knowledge economy while achieving the target of US$1 billion in revenue and employment to over 100,000 by 2015’, said Sujiva Dewaraja, the new chairman of SLASSCOM at the recently held AGM.

One day workshop on ICT curriculum development facilitated by the Sri Lankan Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) was held at the Dialog auditorium yesterday.

The current economic crisis facing the world’s two most powerful economies, the EU and the USA has thus far had no impact on the island’s ICT/BPO industry, an industry source told reporters on Tuesday.
