Development challenges: IPS invites you to have your say via Google Moderator

1-March-2012

Respected think tank the Institute of Policy Studies is using an interactive tool in order to give you an opportunity to have your say in the development challenges facing the country.

Sri Lanka is in a new phase of growth, but the development challenges are many. Unemployment rates overall may be low, but youth unemployment is high. A/L-qualified youth have the highest unemployment rate.

Sri Lanka needs to create more jobs, but also better jobs - in keeping with changing aspirations and a changing world scenario.

The IPS and the World Bank are hosting the launch of the report ‘More and Better Jobs in South Asia’ and a panel discussion on Sri Lankan Perspectives of this today (March 01, 2012). Linked to this, The IPS is asking you - "How Can We Create More and Better Jobs in Sri Lanka?"

"We are experimenting with an interactive tool called ‘Google Moderator’ to host your comments and ideas on this important issue. What are your ideas on how Sri Lanka can create more and better jobs? What needs fixing - is it the education system? skills mismatch? a better business environment that encourages more small businesses? industries?" the IPS said.

Go to the IPS Google Moderator page and have your say! - http://www.google.com/moderator/#16/e=1ef771 (you will need a google sign-in)

You don’t need to be an expert on the topic to have an opinion on how Sri Lanka can create more and better jobs! So go ahead - leave an idea! The page is always open and comments will be published in about a week from now.

Also, the report presentation and panel discussions taking place at the IPS auditorium today will be available via a live stream (webcast) at - http://www.ips.lk/news/broadcast/index.html.
