Virtusa reduces its Carbon Footprint for FY 11.: Company launches annual Carbon Footprint Report

Virtusa Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTU), a global IT services company, announced today that it recently celebrated milestones in its Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) program named “Code Green”, a pillar of its sustainability program. To commemorate these achievements, the company hosted an event, attended by Mr. Charitha Herath, Chairman of the Central Environment Authority, as the Chief Guest.
Virtusa’s Climate Change Management program, a sub-component of the EHS program, was selected as a case study by the European Union funded “Enhancing Environmental Performance in key Sri Lankan Export Sectors” (EEPEx) project. The Annual Carbon Footprint Report for Virtusa Sri Lanka for FY11,which was compiled as an output of this process, was launched at this event. The report found that Virtusa’s conservation efforts had reduced its absolute carbon footprint by 400 tonnes of CO2eq, which included a 31% reduction in per capita energy consumption over the last 3 years.

We have been able to achieve significant reduction of overheads by thinking and acting green. For example, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Management is a major part of this drive and through continuous monitoring, measuring, adapting and innovating; we have curtailed per capita energy consumption by significantly.”
Denver DeZylva - Director, Virtusa Sri Lanka, who heads the company’s EHS Program, said, “Our core philosophy is to “do more, and better with less” in a sustainable manner, which directly contributes to consistently reducing our environmental footprint across all our products and services delivered to our customers”.
